Helping the Almeidas

Family & friends of the Almeidas:

Given a series of unexpected, very difficult, (and very costly) events, Jason & Alyssa could really use our help. I am reaching out to you all to offer a way to help if you are able to.

For those that might not know, Jason is in a full time graduate student at URIs School of Oceanography. In addition to the demands of his studies and his own research, he also works for the university as a research assistant or teaching assistant, depending on the needs of the program each semester. Balancing all of this, plus being a “papa” to 2 toddlers, he is limited in his ability to make money right now.

When Alyssa isn’t caring for their two young toddlers, she is working at a full time capacity as a clinical therapist 3 very long days a week.

A few weeks ago they found out while attempting to get an inspection, that one of their vehicles is no longer drivable due to frame rot. The same vehicle they already dumped thousands into this fall. They have been scrambling to meet all the demands of their family responsibilities using one car until they are able to replace their unusable vehicle. As if that wasn’t enough unexpected stress, they received the devastating news that Jason’s Grama, who lives in Florida, was being put in hospice today. For those that know Jason, you can imagine how completely heartbreaking this news is.

Jason’s Grama is by far one of the most important people in his life. She was a major figure in Jason’s childhood, helping raise him, and has continued to been there for him throughout his life with unconditional love and support. The Almeidas are faced with the unexpected expense of flying their family of four down to Florida tomorrow, to be with Grama in her last days. Flights, hotel, rental car…

The Almeidas are such wonderful people, always caring for the people in their “tribe”. If you are able to help them out, anything would be incredibly appreciated to help ease the financial burden during this incredibly sad and difficult time of their lives.

Due to this trip being so unexpected and last minute (as well as having to fly to Florida during spring break week and the Daytona races), costs for their flights, hotel, etc. are extraordinarily high (they have already spent close to $3,000). Any amount, no matter how small, will greatly help. Thank you!
