Every day in the burning heat of Luxor, I would see an elderly woman named Suad sitting outside selling tissues. She was always there, quietly enduring the sun, trying to earn what little she could. Something told me there was more to her story.
With the help of a local, I found her home—and what I saw broke my heart.
Suad has been a widow for ten years. She lives in very poor conditions, with no bed and a bare concrete floor to sleep on. The only person who can care for her is her daughter—but her daughter is blind in one eye and desperately needs surgery in Cairo to restore her sight. The operation costs 22,000 EGP (about £550 / $700).
When I visited Suad, I brought food, supplies, and 5000 EGP to help in the short term. But this is only a small step. Together, we can change their lives in a real way.
What your support will go towards:
• Eye surgery for Suad’s daughter so she can see again
• Basic improvements to their home (cleaning, repairs, kitchen supplies)
• A proper bed for Suad, so she no longer has to sleep on concrete
In a culture where women often have fewer rights and opportunities, it is especially hard for them to rise without support. But every woman deserves dignity, freedom, and the chance to live safely and comfortably.
We have trusted local contacts who will carry out the work step by step, and we’ll keep everyone updated on the progress.
No matter how big or small, your contribution can bring hope back into Suad and her daughter’s lives.
Together, we can help them reclaim their dignity and create a home filled with love and care.
