Friends & Gamers!
Y'all know me as the President of Metamorphic Digital Services, but I'm also friends with many of you in the #ttrpg community.
One of our friends Andrew White and his family have experienced a devastating blow. If you have ever played any of the fantastic games that Paizo Inc. creates online, then you've likely benefited from the unyielding and earnest work of Andrew. He has worked tirelessly with myself, my company, and so many of our partners (like Roll20 and Foundry Virtual Tabletop) to bring the games we all love to you and your virtual tables. He has many formal credits for writing and design to his name, and runs games in person at cons as well!
More importantly, he is such a kind, creative, talented, dedicated, and selfless human. He's always been an utter joy to work with and we often wonder when the man gets to sleep...
Please take a bit of time today to chip in and help one of our dear community members and his family in their time of need.
From Andrew:
Nearly 2 months ago, our home was gutted by a house fire that began in our laundry room and quickly spread, destroying a water main and causing extensive fire, smoke, and water damage throughout the building. Although everyone in our family was thankfully unharmed, including our pet cats and frogs, nearly all of our personal possessions (including most of our kids’ toys, multiple book collections, and countless irreplaceable sentimental items) were not so lucky.
Since then, we’ve been without a permanent place to live, and to make matters worse, despite years of uninterrupted premium payments, our insurance provider been stalling for weeks, ignoring our calls and emails, and refusing to confirm whether they’ll cover the emergency services we engaged to mitigate further damage in the wake of the disaster. We’ve already incurred tens of thousands of dollars in contractor fees and temporary housing costs, and we still haven’t been given any idea what our policy will cover or when reconstruction can begin.
Without many other options, we are now looking into legal assistance to help resolve the situation, which will add even more expenses. Meanwhile, school for our kids will be starting next month, and we are scrambling to replace clothes, furniture, and other necessities while trying to maintain a stable living situation.
We are humbly asking for any support you can give. Donations will go toward:
- Paying down emergency contractor and housing costs
- Replacing essential lost items (clothing, furniture, appliances)
- Legal fees to hold our insurance provider accountable
- Transportation and logistics for getting our kids to and from school this fall
Anything would make a huge difference. And if you’re not in a position to help out financially, just spreading the word to raise awareness of our situation would mean the world to us.
Thank you,
Andrew, Angela, Ian, and Gavin (and Mochi, Rango, Luna, Mr. Gentleman Hopkins, and Mrs. Lady Hopkins
