URGENT need for PPE for Postpartum Team

Donation protected
*We are trying to provide PPE to all Local Hospitals Lactation Consultants and Staff*

THE TEAM NEEDING OUR SUPPORT:

I am writing on behalf of Mina Jasovic a IBCLC and her amazing team of Lactation Consultants, Doula's and Nurses.

Currently, during this COVID-19 crisis, Postpartum Teams are given very limited, if any, protection during their shifts in Labor & Delivery. No PPE items: Masks and Eye guards. This is an unacceptable condition in which to work. They have been advised to stand 6' from their patients. Trying to assess latch, low tone, Postpartum anxiety/depression etc from so far, is near impossible. Therefore the Patients are not getting the care the need and deserve.

THE PROBLEM:

Mothers are admitted exhibiting no symptoms of COVID-19, but within a few days exhibit symptoms and testing positive for COVID-19. By then, these teams have been in contact for 3-4 days. So have been fully exposed. Nurses and carers have tested positive because of this exposure.

This important and dedicated team have families, with no protection for them to do their jobs properly, they are not able to keep their own families safe. They are unable to interact with their families when they go home, due to exposure. She loves her job deeply and is determined to be an advocate and to keep her teams safe.

THE BABIES:

Babies are being discharged, have a high chance to be re-admitted to the NICU for dehydration, high bilirubin and excessive weight loss : because they aren't being supported in a way that is effective, post delivery. Due to the lack of safety for this team to do their job properly in the first place. They need to be close to the patients to effectively assess and support these Mothers and Babies at such vulnerable time.

WHAT THEY NEED:

Each Dollar raised will go DIRECTLY to this team:
$10 - 4x N95 Masks
$20 - 8x N95 Masks
$50 - 100x Surgical Masks
$250 - One Nurse Kit for 7 days, (Eye guard, Mask, Gowns)

If you have any other non-monetary donations that can support these teams, please contact me privately. We warmly welcome those, plus any companies that are happy to match donations made.

THOUGHTS:

We fully appreciate the gravity of the situation for many families during this time. But also feel the next generation deserves our support too. This situation has thrown us all and we are all struggling to navigate our paths through.

Many of us have delivered in or around the Los Angeles area and received such valuable postpartum support. This is a time that is filled with nerves, excitement and also a steep learning curve.  We were guided through those first few special, yet intense days by a dedicated teams.

Small acts of kindness during such uncertain times is so beautiful.
Please lmk if you need any further information.

Warmly,

Natalie, Mother of NICU Twins. Delivered at Tarzana Hospital. Born prematurely, they not only saved my life during delivery, but also my children. I am forever grateful to this wonderful team.
