HELPING PEOPLE TO HELP DONKEYS TO HELP PEOPLE

People in the rural areas of Zimbabwe rely on their donkeys to survive, they are used to transport the sick to the clinic, to collect firewood and the daily water supply, often these donkeys are subjected to horrific abuse. The harnesses are often held together with wire which rubbs huge wounds which are untreated and go septic. Their hooves are not maintained and grow long and off balanced, their teeth are never checked and get sharp edges cutting into the cheek when they are eating and cause abscesses or a rotten tooth that prevents them from eating. 
They work during the day and left to fend for themselves at night, walking the road sides in search of green grass or a crust of bread thrown from  passing car windows. Sometimes they walk into the road and are hit by a passing truck, car or bus causing fatal accidents to both humans and themselves. 
Kate and Will get involved at ground level in the rural villages teaching the care and welfare of the donkeys, checking and doing teeth and hooves, treating wounds and trying to make the harnesses more comfortable. In each area a person is chosen to teach them basic trimming and balancing of the hooves and left with the necessary tools. 
This is a costly undertaking and your support helps to educate theses people so that they can take better care of their donkeys.
