In Memoriam: Paul Johnson (1964-2024)

We, Kristy and Jeff, have set up this fundraiser to support our dear friends Paul and Elvin. If you are donating to this fundraiser, there is a likelihood that you know these wonderful soulmates of 29 years. For these three decades, Paul and Elvin have come to the aid of many of us. Now they need our help:

Around Thanksgiving 2023 Paul began to lose his appetite. He has progressively grown weaker and has lost 40+ pounds in two months. Doctors recently diagnosed the problem: Paul's liver is failing, and he is in the care of hospice for what is likely a terminal condition.

Paul, however, is a fighter. He is a Navy veteran and recently survived esophageal cancer and was able to return to work. The cancer battle, however, took its toll on Paul and Elvin as they struggled to pay medical expenses and keep the home and garden they so lovingly built together. Friends have stepped forward to help care for their 4 pets while Elvin stays at Paul's bedside at the VA Hospital. But, what they desperately need is money now to pay their utilities and their mortgage. Many of us know what it is like to live paycheck-to-paycheck. Elvin and Paul were able to come back from Paul's cancer crisis, and life was returning to normal. They now face this new, unexpected, and devastating challenge. Although the VA medical care is a great help, there are other medical expenses plus utilities, their mortgage, insurance, pet care, and all the normal day-to-day expenses that were manageable with two incomes.
