I met Kim at the Chili Cook-off in October of 2019! He came over to our tent to introduce himself & we became the best of friends! He has an infectious personality, a huge smile & always has something positive & nice to say! I’ve never seen him any other way & I'm 100% certain, anyone who knows him has a similar story! Around that same time, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney & Bone cancer & it began to spread multiple parts of his body.
In December of 2019, he had his first kidney surgery. He began Chemotherapy treatments in early 2020 & still continues those treatments today, which last for 2-3 hours per treatment, to keep the cancer contained. Some days he feels up to returning to work & others he doesn’t.
During the last week of July of this year, he started running a fever & became unresponsive & was taken by ambulance to PRMC. Dr’s had no idea what was wrong.
The PET Scan showed the cancer had spread to his liver & bones & he was switched to oral chemotherapy. On August 3rd, his organs began to shut down & he was put on dialysis every day for the next 2 weeks. Eventually, he began physical therapy, occupational therapy & speech therapy, which he continues to do now. He was in PRMC for 1 month & 1 week before being discharged home. It wasn’t until late September that he returned to work, but only in small increments. He still has more medical treatments in his future, some locally & some in the metroplex & he is hopeful to begin a clinical trial treatment, which if approved, he will miss more work & he will have travel, food & hotel expenses to & from the Dallas area. I’m asking each & everyone who reads this, to dig out your wallet & give to someone who gives tenfold thru volunteering at events such as Steak Wars, Paris HD Chili Cook-off, Tour de Paris, plays the piano at the Holy Cross Luncheons, volunteers at the Downtown Food Pantry, cooks & serves breakfast at the Home Place, volunteers at events thru Citizens on Patrol & recently, the Bonham Bike Event & so many more!
All donations will go directly to Kim to cover home & past & future medical expenses!
