Paul Wolkersdorfer
Paul Wolkersdorfer has been a part of the Spokane Parts Department for a few years. Paul is a member of the Calvary Chapel Church in Spirit Lake, ID – his devotion to his faith and family is an inspiration to us all here. Recently, Paul was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma. Paul was diagnosed in October after investing in eye surgery to pass a physical to retain his CDL. This is when the doctors discovered a mass of a 23cm tumor in his body. After consulting with his Doctor, a regiment for a treatment has been prescribed. 6 or more cycles of ABVD, a chemotherapy regimen that includes a variety of drugs only a doctor can pronounce. This is a 9-hour transfusion over 2 days. The good news is this is a very curable form of Lymphoma.
Cary Schafer’s wife, Jessica Schafer
Life is a blessing and don’t forget it. January 6th, 2020 would be a day that would change our lives forever. That’s the day the C word was said loud and clear. “Jessica, you have Breast Cancer.” Shock, fear, and disbelief run through your body. The next week was a blur. I was lucky to have found it when I did; by chance, during the reduction surgery. We were looking at 1 ½ years of treatment + surgeries. The first 3 months were rough with chemotherapy every 3 weeks. The next 3 months were the worst, with Chemotherapy once a week and the side effects were unbearable. By this time, I had also lost all of my hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes. After this, there were 15 more months of every 3 weeks having another treatment. During this, there were also 5 surgeries. The breast reduction, port placement, double mastectomy, emergency surgery from an infection from the mastectomy, and finally the implant placement. All this with COVID and a pandemic – what a year! I’m thankful for such an amazing support system – my loving husband, Cary, our 3 children, as well as Cary’s coworkers, bosses, and Peterbilt.
We are all in Paul and Jessica’s corner to help them through these tough times.
