Helping our mom overcome lung cancer

My name is Almary, and together with my sister Janeth, and my dad Orlando, we are opening this campaign to help my mom overcome cancer.

My mom, María (or as most people know her, Chela) had Covid in June this year, and since then she’s had a persistent cough. Further exams (X-Rays and Tomography) found a “shadow” in her lungs. A biopsy was taken from the bronchi and lab tests indicated it was an infection, which was treated but the cough did not disappear.

In July, the new tomography showed that the “shadow” in her lungs had grown. Together with the doctors, we decided to perform a thoracoscopy; this time, they took more sample tissue from a different part of the lung. To our surprise, the tests found a metastatic adenocarcinoma.

The immunohistochemistry panel indicates the primary tumor comes from the lung, and a full body PET Scan from Tuesday 15th Nov, indicates that there is metastasis in the pelvis bone.

Unfortunately, Venezuela's political and economic situation has impacted the healthcare system. The patients are left on their own to find the medicines, the medical supplies, find a place where lab tests can be done, find capable doctors, and go through the treatment without any support system but their immediate relatives. The current situation merits that the cancer treatment is paid for privately, and needs to be started as soon as possible to avoid metastasis in other organs.

Until now, my sister and I have covered all medical costs, surpassing the 10.000 USD $. We now ask for your support to cover the cancer treatment my mom needs, which has a total cost of 24.462 USD $.

Mi nombre es Almary, y junto con mi hermana Janeth, y mi papá Orlando, estamos abriendo esta campaña para ayudar a mi mamá a superar el cáncer de pulmón.

Mi mamá María (o como la conocen todos, Chela) tuvo Covid en junio de este año, y desde entonces presenta una tos persistente. En exámenes posteriores (Rayos X y Tomografía) se encontró una "sombra" en sus pulmones. Se tomó una biopsia de los bronquios y las pruebas de laboratorio indicaron que se trataba de una infección, que fue tratada pero la tos no desapareció.

En julio, una nueva tomografía muestra que la "sombra" en sus pulmones había crecido. Junto con los médicos, decidimos realizar una toracoscopia; esta vez, tomaron más cantidad de tejido de una parte diferente del pulmón. Para nuestra sorpresa, las biopsia arrojó el resultado de un adenocarcinoma metastásico.

El panel de inmunohistoquímica indica que el tumor primario proviene del pulmón, y un PET Scann de cuerpo entero del martes 22 de noviembre, indica que hay metástasis en el hueso de la pelvis.

Por desgracia, la situación política y económica de Venezuela ha afectado al sistema sanitario. Los pacientes se ven obligados a buscar por su cuenta las medicinas, los suministros médicos, encontrar un lugar en el que se puedan hacer pruebas de laboratorio, encontrar médicos capacitados, y pasar por el tratamiento sin ningún sistema de apoyo más que de sus familiares. La situación actual amerita que el tratamiento se pague de forma privada, y que se inicie lo antes posible para evitar la metástasis en otros órganos.

Hasta ahora, mi hermana y yo hemos cubierto todos los gastos médicos, superando los 10.000 USD $. Ahora pedimos su apoyo para cubrir el tratamiento contra el cáncer que necesita mi mamá, el cual tiene un costo total de 24.462 USD $.
