Hello Friends,
Our friend Nancy Mahlow has spent years fighting for the Eastside of Lansing as President of the Neighborhood organization and sitting on several boards within the city and does all this still after going thru the tragedies of losing her mother, then her dog of many years, and sadly shortly after her husband, Bob, to cancer, which was unexpected and quick all in the same small-time frame of 2018. Never in all that time did she not give it her all to personally take care of all those people and pets. She had to retire to make sure her husband was comfortable. in late summer fall of 2019 a puppy, Abby, came into her life she was a stray and in need of a home and filled a huge hole left after all the loss. Abby is kind, gentle, loving, sweet, and always there to lift you up. Sadly, she when she developed, she had a condition on both back legs called CCL, which is like a person’s ACL in their knee, degenerate or weaken for various reasons. Because the CCL weakens over time, it can rupture with seemingly minimal trauma. A CCL rupture is the leading cause of hind limb lameness in dogs and causes instability in the stifle (knee) joint which Abby is currently experiencing. In 2020 Nancy was able to scrap together the money to do one leg and the vet said her other leg will need surgery within a year and it is scheduled for the first week in October. Nancy has spent so much money out of her own pocket, she doesn’t have, to benefit Lansing and the Eastside and Scheduled this surgery, as it has become too hard for Abby to walk, sit, or move. She is taking every dime she has to get this done as that dog, along with her sister Sadie, are the gem in Nancy's eyes. The success rate is very high for Abby to lead a normal life after the TPLO surgery which corrects the issue. Nancy has been thru the worst of 3 years anyone of us could imagine and being a senior is on a fixed income the cost is not something someone can budget and sadly there was no way to know this was going to happen. We are looking to help someone who has never asked for help on anything, and Abby deserves to live a full life and experience all the great things a dog gets to experience, and she will have a long life being only two. We now ask for your help to get Abby the surgery and I know the Eastside, Lansing, and Michigan to be a place where people care about each other and now is the time to care full hearted. Every penny raised will go to the cost of surgery and aftercare.
