Helping Our Friend Derek Cooper
Donation protected
Friends and Facebook Family,
I'm sharing in hopes that we band together to experience the benefits of social media to help a friend in need. Derek Cooper is my childhood friend. For those of you who know him, you need little explanation of what a wonderful husband, father and all around great human being he is. For those who don't, please read on to learn a little more.
As we head into the holiday season, I'm hoping you are inspired to lend a hand to a friend in need.
Many thanks in advance,
Christina
Derek's Story.
My kidney disease came from medication that was over prescribed to me about 6 years ago.
My kidney function was 100% 7 years ago. And it fell to the 30’s in a three-year period.
When it was finally discovered, three specialists at Lahey Burlington told me I had to start seeing a a Nephrologist regularly & that I should get a new doctor. (Malpractice is too difficult to prove as three lawyers told me...)
I had to stop my painting business (of 20 years) and started cooking as it was in level ground. I was getting dizzy spells from the medication that was now saving my life.
Up until a few months ago, I had a donor until the last minute when she discovered she couldn’t be my donor. That’s when my wife, Joanna, stepped in. She had just donated blood two days prior to hearing of my donor not able to help, she knew we were a match.
It’s been tough on both of us, and it’s certainly cost us plenty.
We are hoping for $8,000.00 over a two month period (my recovery). The money will go toward lost wages & paying for help when friends & family are not available.
