Helping our Feline Friends

Every day, across Bay Ridge and our neighborhoods, countless whispers, go unheard. The soft cries of a hungry kitten hidden beneath a bush, the desperate meow of an abandoned mother cat seeking shelter from the storm, the silent suffering of a once loved companion left to fend for themselves on the hard streets. These are the sounds and sights that break my heart and fuel my mission as an independent Cat Rescuer.

My name is Dina, Marie , and for about three years, I’ve dedicated my life to answering those unheard whispers. I’ve seen some of the worst emaciated bodies, matted fur, and fearful, skittish eyes. But I’ve also witnessed the incredible resilience of these animals and the transformative power of a little love and care.

Take my cat Frankie, for example. I found her 4 pounds, scraping for food for her children, abandoned in a driveway. She was covered in fleas, ear mites, malnutrition, every tooth in her mouth was rotted, and she had a major eye infection, almost lost her left eye. Her eyes were just clouded over with infection, and she was honestly done with the street. She was the first one to run into the trap. It was clear to me that she wouldn’t last another night without intervention.

The diagnosis for her was really grim, she had a severe upper respiratory infection, she was approximately eight years old and living in the street the entire time, extreme malnutrition, and a host of parasites. The vet bill began to climb, but looking at Frankie, and her fighting spirit, I knew I wasn’t gonna give up on her. For weeks, I nursed her back to health, administering medication, and providing her the warmth and safety that she needed. Slowly, her eyes cleared up, her fur was clean and shiny, and even though she was still kind of scared, you could see she felt safe.

Frankie story is just one of the many stories. Each Cat that I rescue comes with their own tale of hardship, and each requires immediate veterinary attention, nutritious food, warm, bedding, and often, extensive rehab rehabilitation to overcome fear and to learn how to trust again. They need vaccinations, spaying, or neutering, and micro chipping before they can even begin their search for a loving forever home.

This is where my friends and family and neighbors come in. As an independent Rescuer, I operate solely on my own limited funds and the kindness of my compassionate friends and family. You can believe that every single dollar that’s donated goes directly to these fur babies, and to all the services, and food that’s required to take care of them. Any amount that you are willing to contribute helps me continue to be a lifeline for the cats that don’t have any help or voice, like Frankie, pulling them from the brink and giving them a chance at a happy healthy life.

your generosity isn’t just a donation, it’s a second chance. It’s the difference between a cold, hungry night on the streets and a warm, safe bed. It’s the purr of a cat finally feeling loved, the playful pounces of a kitten discovering joy, and the peace of mind, knowing that one more precious life has been saved.

Please consider opening your heart and helping me continue to do my work. With funds being so tight it’s making it very hard for me to do anymore. Together, we can turn unheard whispers into happy purrs. Thank you again for taking the time out to read what I have to say with my deepest gratitude.

I also have an Amazon wish list for the cats if you’d prefer that, please see below:
