Helping Our Brother Matt Vann
Donation protected
My name is Chris Vickery, and along with Station One of the San Francisco Fire Department, we are here to ask for help for our brother Matt Vann. Matt came into the department in 2014 in the 117th academy recruit class. He spent time, like most new firefighters to the fire department , at several fire houses through out the city . He made Station 1 this year and is a proud member of Engine 1.
On Monday, November 2nd, 2020, Matt suffered a critical head injury while operating at a fire in the SOMA district at 55 Spear street. While assisting his crew to reload equipment , Matt was violently swept and thrown to the ground when a firehose became entangled in a passing bus's wheels. The energy of the hose breaking away from the engine and being pulled by the bus had dramatic and tragic results.
Matt is currently in critical condition at San Francisco General Hospital where he is undergoing treatment to make a recovery back to good health and normalcy. At this time Matt has been through two major surgeries to correct issues stemming from the impact to his head. While news of such an injury is devastating , Matt is fighting day by day showing his true strength and determination and is improving.
On behalf of myself, Fire station 1 and members of the SFFD we are asking for help that will directly benefit Matt, his 8 year old son and immediate family on his road to recovery,
We would like to conclude this message with a sincerely gracious THANK YOU! to the staff, nurses and doctors at the San Francisco General Hospital who have gone above and beyond to help mend our brother Matt on his road to recovery. Please continue to keep Matt and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Matt is a fighter and continues to amaze us with his strength . Thank you for your time and god bless.
