Hi my name is Lauren, I’m Noah’s Mom.
Noah is a Good kid, a great big brother to 2 younger sisters Savannah & Ellie, he does well in school- was on honor roll, been citizen of the month, and loves playing video games with his friends.
On Friday May 6th 2022, Noah was at school, and I got the call no parent ever wants to get! Noah was sick, passed out, throwing up, and I needed to get him to the hospital. So I rushed to school picked him up and was on the way to the hospital when in the middle of a conversation he is passing out in the back seat. We arrived at Summit Hospital in Oconomowoc where he began seizing, luckily the nurse was in the room for the first one, urgently called the DR and determined he was seizing and they were going to take him to get a CT scan, when they brought him back to the room he was seizing again! My god, what is happening to my child!!!
Summit hospital called Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and consulted Neurology and requested a transport. We were transported via ambulance to CHW and immediately admitted to the ICU! In the next 2 days We had 2 unsuccessful spinal taps and 1 successful one, EEG monitoring of his brain for 36 hours, and a MRI. All of which showed no answers, they moved us out of the ICU to the Neurology Floor where they decided to have another MRI it was determined that Noah had Autoimmune Encephalitis! Another Spinal Tap (sedated) showed his Spinal pressure was at 55, most children’s should be somewhere between 20-30!
Noah began IVIG (Intravenous Immunoglobulin) treatments on Tuesday along with steroids. The IVIG are provided by donors antibodies, which is quite costly. The long term prognosis is that he will need to continue these treatments once weekly for a undetermined amount of time. The 4th spinal tap fluid was sent to Mayo in Minnesota for further testing and to hopefully determine what caused this and how long will be continuing treatments. Noah is currently still IN-Patient at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, where infectious disease testing, and further daily labs are still being performed.
He will need to continue weekly treatments at the infusion clinic, Start Therapy sessions with a psychologist, and follow ups with primary & neurology.
Our family is trying to adjust to this change in lifestyle, incorporating travel time, and many many appointments which will cause both Mom & Dad missing work. While still trying to give all 3 kids a normal life as possible.
With all your Love & Support THE NABAK FAMILY ♥️
