Myrtle Melton's Medical and Burial Expenses

Donation protected
My name is Jamie and I'm Myrtle Melton's granddaughter. I'm starting a GoFundMe page to help pay for upcoming funeral/end of life expenses. Gram was diagnosed last April with stage 3 cancer in both her bladder and stomach. In January she had to have bladder removal surgery and a fistulotomy. It has not been an easy recovery, but if you know Gram, you know she's a fighter. She surprised us all with how well she did after 7 hours of surgery.

Over the past few months since her surgery, she's had a lot of ups and downs, but recently had some major setbacks. She was brought back to the hospital from the rehab facility she was in due to a collapsed lung and pneumonia. Somehow she bounced back almost overnight in what felt like a miracle recovery. This breakthrough lasted about two weeks until she had yet another setback due to an infection.

Yesterday we received the worst and most heartbreaking news that the infection is taking over her body faster than the cancer. We had to make the extremely difficult decision of either keeping her comfortable with pain meds or fight the infection as the amount of antibiotics she would need negates the pain meds causing her great discomfort. Unfortunately, the decision to not treat the infection would ultimately only give her two weeks or less with us.

All that know Gram (Myrtle) know what a wonderful, loving, compassionate, jovial woman she is, who brings so much joy to all she encounters. Not only is she the matriarch and glue that keeps our family together, she's the most amazing mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend anyone could ask for. Gram has not lived the most glamous life, but she always made due and made the most out of whatever she had even when facing adversity.

Gram has always given so much to each of us, even when she really didn't have the means to do so, that we are now asking for help as we try to prepare for the her final days.

All funds will go towards paying off some of the debt she accrued over the last year as she was not able to work and to help pay for the viewing/burial expenses.

Please accept my deepest gratitude for your generous donations (small or large) to help give the absolute beautiful soul, the woman I have looked up to and aspired to be the celebration of life/burial she deserves. ❤️❤️
