If 2,400 people gave just $5, my son could stay enrolled this year.
I’m a public health nurse, single mom and family caregiver, doing everything I can — working full time, selling belongings, applying for scholarships, and taking on extra work — but this year has brought more hardship than we can manage alone.
If you’re able to give $5 or simply share this, it truly helps more than you know.❤️
Asking for help like this is not easy for me. I’m used to being the one supporting others, not the one reaching out. But after careful reflection, I realized that accepting support—especially for my son’s education—is not something to be ashamed of. It’s an act of hope during a difficult season.
I am a full-time registered nurse working in local public health in Shasta County, serving families and vulnerable communities every day. I believe deeply in public service, but nurse wages in our region do not reflect the cost of living and fall far behind much of California.
I am raising $12,000 to help my son get through this academic year as he pursues his undergraduate education on the path to dental school. He is dedicated, motivated, and committed to a future in healthcare. He is currently enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno, which offers a strong and structured program that best supports his academic success.
We made the intentional decision not to pursue the community college route. My son has ADD, and prolonged or indirect academic pathways are not a good fit for him. Entering a university program directly has allowed him to stay focused, engaged, and moving steadily toward his long-term goal of dental school.
Like many middle-class families, we’ve worked hard, paid our taxes, and contributed to our community—yet saving for college has become increasingly difficult. Rising costs, stagnant wages, and unexpected hardships have made this year especially challenging.
In 2025, I was forced to take time off work due to illness. Unfortunately, it appears 2026 may bring similar challenges, as I have been in and out of the hospital since December 26th and may need additional time away to focus on my health.
At the same time, several major financial strains have occurred:
My son’s biological father does not contribute to his education.
A failed heating and AC unit required a $25,000 replacement last year.
I was sold a vehicle that has repeatedly failed—my primary transportation to work—resulting in significant financial loss and ongoing repairs (I am currently consulting with an attorney).
None of these were poor choices—just multiple hardships happening at once.
I have spent my career helping others navigate crisis, illness, and limited resources. Today, I’m asking for help so my son can stay in school and continue moving toward a future where he can give back through healthcare.
If you are able to donate—any amount truly helps—or share this fundraiser, I would be deeply grateful. Your support helps us get through this year with stability, dignity, and hope.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for supporting education and healthcare workers.
With sincere gratitude,
Paula
