Helping my Refugee Family from Ukraine
Donation protected
My name is Alla Korzh, and I am a Ukrainian who has been living in the United States for 17 years. As you know, my home country was invaded by Russia on February 24, 2022. My home town Chernihiv is 70% destroyed following an assault by Russian troops.
While my relatives and friends continue to live under siege there, I am lucky to have my mom, sister, and my niece escape the war in Ukraine and stay safely with me in Washington, D.C., where I have been living in a small studio.
I am asking for help for my sister Aliona and niece Emilia. Since the start of the war, my sister has lost her job and has been homeschooling my niece. My sister has always been a hard-working, invested, and conscientious employee. She gives it all to her family, work, and community. With over 20 years of professional experience in logistics, she has been struggling to make ends meet in the US without a job. My niece Emilia is 9 years old. She loves cats, making origami, and drawing. Ever since the war started, she has been drawing her two cats (Leo and Masik) left behind in Ukraine, and has been missing her father, friends, school, and home in besieged Chernihiv. Emilia is completing Ukrainian Grade 3 curriculum online, and we will be enrolling her in a public school here this fall.
Your donation will help cover their housing and basic expenses while my sister awaits work authorization in the US on the TPS (temporary protective status), which will take months. Big or small, your donation will make a difference for them. If you have any questions, please let me know.
