My dear family and friends. Today I’m laying myself bare for the sake of my parents. My father was the victim of an online scam that stripped my parents of their savings and I’m asking for help to hopefully recoup some of what they’ve lost. 

As much good as the internet can do to keep families connected from across the ocean, there is also much evil that can find its way into social media communications. With the promise that my father could double his savings and be able to tell my mother she could finally retire, my father unwittingly handed over their life savings to an internet predator. Within 3 months, my parents’ bank accounts were emptied. 

With immense shame and embarrassment, my father told us what happened and I watched as my mother’s face crumbled with the realization that the two jobs she’s had to work for the past 15 years was for nothing. Everything was gone. 

My sister and I now find ourselves in the position of so many children of immigrant parents - managers of our parents’ accounts and mental well-being. This has placed immense stress on everyone and that’s why I’m hoping that recouping some of the money will allow my parents to regain some sense of peace. 

I am grateful that I have friends and family that are willing to lend a helping hand. There is no way that the words “Thank you” could ever convey the gratitude that I have for the kindness of those that make me believe there is more good than evil in this world. 

My family and I are eternally grateful.
