Helping My Aunt With Hospital Expenses
Donation protected
Hello, my name is David, and I am making this GoFundMe page for my Aunt (Patti Hurtt) and my two cousins(Brandon, and Justin Hurtt). Recently, my uncle(Kevin Hurtt) contracted COVID-19, which took a turn for the worse. Due to covid, he eventually developed pneumonia, which led to him being rushed to the hospital. The situation continued to worsen in the hospital, eventually resulting in him being intubated and put on a ventilator. As a result of his coughing fits, he developed a pneumothorax in his left lung, which would shrink, and grow whenever they tried to reduce the suction on his chest tube.
It would seem that things would get better one day, then get worse the next. As of today 01/18/2022 he has developed a second pneumothorax in his right lung, requiring another chest tube to be placed. As of 01/19/22 my uncle has passed away.
Since I can remember, my uncle has been my role model, friend, and father figure. Growing up, he was always there for everyone regardless of how tired or beat he was after working all day.
Not soon after I was born, my mother (his sister) was diagnosed with breast cancer and was given a few months to live. She fought it for almost ten years, but eventually passed away when I was nine. As my sister and I grew up, he was always around us. To distract us from what was going on at home, he would play with us and always make us smile. He did so much for my mother, and us kids when she was alive. His entire world was her, and he treated her as a mother. He did everything he could to help us in any way he could. At the age of 18, I left my father's house due to his mental illness and physical confrontations.
As a result of my dad, I had very little contact with my uncle and his family. When I was out on my own I needed a place to live, and I needed to finish high school in order to start over. It was my uncle who gave me a place to live, and I felt safe. Once I finished my high school education, I was unsure what to do.
He offered to help me get into the carpenters union so that I could make a good living. While I was staying at my uncle's house, he taught me a lot about life that my father never did. Whether he knows it or not, he helped guide me, and he made me a better man. It was my uncle's nature to give everything to his family, and to ask for so little in return. I had the honor of knowing one of the most loving, caring, and compassionate men in my life.
Though he usually maintained a hardened appearance for everyone to see. I knew him as an Army veteran who served in Desert Storm, as a superb carpenter, as a skilled pool player, as a great bag player, as a mentor, a friend, a husband, as a father, as a brother, as a son, and very importantly as the most amazing human being I have come in contact with. His life has been filled with so much kindness and sacrifice for me and others. The things my uncle has done for me and others throughout his life are almost too many to mention here. Through this GoFundMe, I hope to alleviate some of the stresses of medical bills, and everything else that comes with having a loved one in the hospital.
Thank you to all who can help, David Keith
