Helping mum to live comfortably
Donation protected
Update: 23rd February 2023 mum has been home at kirstis now since the 1st February, we have had a few bed changes to try and get one that is not only comfortable but also pressure sore friendly and not noisy when the air mattress is being inflated, we have a whole new selection of pillows so that we are able to position mum so hopefully no pressure sores and or pain when exercising resting or tending to personal care.
Mum has been to bingo 2 times and enjoyed it but was in a lot of pain when she returned home, but the bingo is only a short power hour session. Kirsti is currently working on seeking support workers to help with her care and social acitivities as well as physio and occupational therapist to continue her rehab.
Wednesday 21st Dec 2022 changed drastically for the life of my mum, Denise Furner. Wife to Patrick, Mother to Brian myself and Kirsti, oma not only to our children but also to all our friends and their children.
To some, you will know her as the lady who always wore the hat, no matter where she went. Never missed bingo....until now, so we know this is serious...
Well, Mum has had to miss bingo these last few weeks as she had a massive bleed on the brain on the Wednesday prior to xmas and has been in hospital ever since. She had an operation on Thursday 22nd Dec after the drs gave us two options.... One to say goodbye or the other was to operate. And even the operations wasn't promising much.. Mum told us she was not ready to go. So we opted for the op.. over 4 hrs passed, and we just wanted answers and to see Mum. We got the call to say she went well through the operation and was now in recovery, but it would take time to see what she could do. And what the prognoses would be.
Since her operation, she has gained very limited use of her left hand and arm. She has no control over it or strength. She is able to lift her arm, but that is all. She has slight feeling in her left leg but it is more so only pins and needles, she has had the palliative care come and speak with her in hospital, and they are working together with mum my sister and dad and the nursing staff to try and get mum back to Kirstis so that she is more comfortable. My sister will look after her, she will have to reduce her hours at work (if not leave it all together) with being a fulltime mum to a 6yr old, amd also caring for dad who has cancer. Mum is going to need full-time care, will be wheelchair bound, require hoist transfers, personal care assistance with all care needed. And through all this, mum is also suffering from cancer. We are hoping that she will be able to continue her chemo. It's going to be a hard, long road for the family. any assistance mount that you can give to help towards the costs of the ongoing medical bills and transport parking fees, equipment that will be needed would be forever grateful from the bottom of out hearts we thank you for supporting us.
