Helping mom on her rehabilitation journey!

Hello friends and family,
The past several months have been tough for my mother and the entire family. On February 4, 2022, Mom had a heart attack and was admitted to St. Francis. 3 days later, she had triple bypass surgery. After her surgery, her kidneys started failing and had to be trached. It was a nightmare trying to figure out what was wrong and finding out information to make the right choices for mom's health.
A few weeks later, I was given a 1-hour notice by the doctor that they were going to move her to Willingboro for recovery. I was told this was the best way to provide her with the care she needed: dialysis, trach removal, sore bed healing and physical rehab.
However, on May 26, 2022 we were informed she will be moved to Preferred Care for respiratory therapy, trach removal, wound care and physical therapy. This is NOT what happened. She did not get any Respiratory Therapy and her trach was not removed. In fact, she was set by 3.5 weeks in terms of recovery because nothing required to rehabilitate her was being done. The state ombudsman that I reached out to confirmed the false advertisement of this facility and the services they said they would provide.
On June 29, 2022 mom was transferred to Merwick. I tried on multiple occasions to have Medicare to give back the days/time at Preferred Care but it was denied. Mom had to essentially start her recovery all over again at Merwick.
She has been improving but has a long way ahead of her. Her foley catheter was removed September 9, 2022 but she still has difficulty emptying her bladder and needs the assistance of a nurse. She had her peg tube removed on September 13, 2022.
She is currently battling stage 4 bed sores, difficulty emptying her bladder and overall physical rehabilitation. She needs to remain in Merwick for continued care.
However, Medicare has stopped paying for mom’s stay at Merwick Rehabilitation - they said she exhausted her benefits. For the past 3 weeks, I've kept her in the facility paying out of pocket - $7,392. But she needs more time. So now, I am asking you to be part of mom's rehabilitation journey.
Thank you so much for being part of mom's life. Our whole family wholeheartedly appreciates your support.
Love,
Patty
