What started as a simple and fun four-wheeler ride with family in the Colorado mountains ended with my husband being airlifted to the hospital.

My husband, Mika, and I are asking for help covering $20,000 in medical expenses after a sudden emergency during a visit with family in Colorado in May 2025.

On May 15, we were staying at my family’s cabin in Northern Colorado and went for a ride on my parents’ four-wheeler. The tires caught the edge of the road, causing the vehicle to flip and roll several times.

Miraculously, I survived without serious injury beyond deep bruising and a cut from my glasses. Mika, however, began having difficulty breathing. Because he has a history of blood clots in his lungs, there was a greater concern, especially with the possibility of broken ribs or a punctured lung. For his safety, the decision was made to airlift him to the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland rather than attempt a painful two-hour car ride.

Thankfully, after evaluation, the medical team determined that Mika had several cracked ribs but no life-threatening injuries, and he was discharged after a few hours. We are incredibly grateful for the care he received and for the fact that he is okay.

Unfortunately, the total medical bills initially came to nearly $100,000. Because we live in Germany, we are not insured in the United States and are responsible for these costs ourselves. After applying for financial assistance, we are deeply thankful that the hospital portion of the bill (approximately $25,000) has been fully covered.

The helicopter transport, however, is billed separately and totals approximately $74,000. The only assistance available is a discounted rate if we are able to make a lump sum payment.

We are hoping to raise $20,000 to put toward this bill and to strengthen our case for financial hardship and negotiation. Any contribution, no matter the size, truly helps us move forward and put this frightening experience behind us. We are deeply grateful for your support.
