Aloha Kakou, our dear friend Michelle Stewart of Ha’ena lost so much during Hurricane Lowell, and their home is currently unlivable.

Michelle is a mother of two sons.

The hurricane tore the roof off over their bedrooms, causing major water damage. Their septic system is underwater, so they cannot use the bathroom or shower at home. They are currently staying nearby while they work to make their house livable again.

They had to throw away beds, mattresses, bed frames, pillows, bedding, carpets, dressers, nearly all belongings, and a large amount of clothing because of the storm and water damage. Much of what they tried to save is now developing mold.

Their immediate needs include:

• Getting the septic pumped

• Repairing the roof

• Removing the damaged bedroom ceilings

• Replacing roofing wood, paper and shingles

• Repairing/replacing ceiling fans

• Replacing beds, bedding, furniture and carpets

• Replacing clothing and household necessities

On top of the devastation to their home, Michelle is continuing medical infusions for critical illness, accruing medical expenses. One of her sons is diagnosed with special needs which makes recovery efforts with schools being closed ever more challenging. Her sole income is reliant on tourism which will not resume for an undetermined amount of time while recovery efforts continue on Kaua’i.

Michelle is taking this one day at a time. She simply needs help getting through the immediate necessities and eventually back into their home.

Michele did not want to ask saying “there are so many ‘Ōhana in need of help, I feel bad to ask for help.” & yet, Michelle needs help.

Any donation, no matter the amount, will help with the septic, roof and ceiling repairs, clothing, and replacing the necessities they lost.
