Hi friends and family. It is with hopeful and heavy hearts we are choosing to share this story with you so we can provide care for our friend, wife, mother, sister, daughter and coworker; Meaghan Nelson-Nielsen.

In January of 2009, Meaghan found out she had thyroid cancer when she was 26 years old. Normally, this type of cancer is very treatable with medication and removal. Unfortunately, this version of cancer is the type that affects about 1% of people after such treatments. She underwent 2 more surgeries in March and November of 2009, and another in the fall of 2010. During the past several years, Meaghan has gone through massive amounts of chemo and maxed out her ability to do any further radiation treatments as she was so toxic and was quarantined from anyone; especially her small children. Today her kids are 12 and 7 and their understanding of what’s happening to Mom is more evident.

Meaghan was married on 7/29/2023 to a wonderful and kind man named Matt. Two days later they found out her cancer is back, with a vengeance. They have found 42 tumors in her neck and another rushed surgery has been scheduled for 10/11/23.

Obviously, as we age, it takes us longer to heal and recover from such invasions to our bodies. Hence, our request for some help and assistance. Her out of pocket expenses for just the surgery will be close to $9k. This does not include treatments, medications and follow-ups into the next year, at least. We as a family will rally to help with the things we can, such as, getting kids to and from school, covering her worktime, making meals for the family, etc so she can heal and not stress about her daily duties as a human. But we can’t help them out financially as much as is needed. We are asking anyone that can help to please do so to relieve as much pressure as we can during this time.
