Helping Mary live her best life!

Donation protected

If you ask anyone who knows my mom 1 word to describe her, the first word that comes to mind for most is Superwoman; and they wouldn’t be wrong. My mom has lived her life defeating the odds set against her since birth, striving everyday to live an independent life and boy, has she succeeded!

Let’s start at the beginning; born hard of hearing, with cerebral palsy, 1 of 10 children. She never let her differences keep her from doing everything anyone else could do. Fast forward to her meeting the love of her life and having 2 children. She set out to be the best mother, wife, and human possible, she never let any of her disabilities get in her way. She’s always been independent and made sure this was one of the most important lessons she instilled on me as a young girl growing up as well. Along the way she always taught us to give back, no matter if it’s a donation, a kind gesture, nice words, ect.. to leave people happier than they were before they came in contact with you.

She has been through hell, 12 surgeries over the span of her life, she was also dragged the length of a football field by a car after getting hit by a drunk driver while crossing the street, her husband and our father becoming terminally ill, her quickly stepping into the role and becoming his nurse while putting herself and her own life on the back burner for years. After he passed away she sold their house and began a new journey to a level of independence she’s never had; living completely on her own. She’s starting to get out there and get her life back, going on adventures, trying new things, going new places, and just living her best life!

This brings me to the purpose of this post. She’s always walked with a walker or crutches, this along with scoliosis and the rods in her back from a spinal fusion many years ago has taken its toll on her body, and she cannot go long distances walking any longer. She has a wheelchair but is unable to get it in and out of her trunk, and push herself on her own. Something she hates more than anything; she is unable to take her grandson to all these fun places she took us as kids, unless someone is with her. She longs for the 1 on 1 adventures she could have with him; or when she goes out with her able bodied friends, or family she has to count on them pushing her, and getting the wheelchair in and out of her car, something we don’t mind but she does. She also has many other friends who are handicapped as well who go on amazing trips and adventures, and this means she can not do as many things with them any longer because she doesn’t have the help for her wheelchair.

She has found the PERFECT electric wheelchair (link below,) one that she can get in and out of her car with the push of a button and ramp. She can also open it up and get it ready for her to sit in with the push of a button! This is something that would TRULY give her the independence she’s worked for her entire life! But the scooter alone is $3,000 and we would also need an accessible ramp for her car, and to have it installed which I’ve estimated can be around $1,500

We need help from our friends and family to make this happen. Whether you can donate, or just share this to get it out there! My mother is not someone who accepts help easily, so I’m hiding this post from her in hopes we can raise the money to buy the scooter and ramp for her birthday at the end of the month. PLEASE DO NOT MENTION IT TO HER!

Thank you all so much! Whether you donate, or share it helps more than you could imagine!

Love,
Her husband who would’ve loved to see her living, not just existing- Tommy; and her children Molly & Brendan ❤️
