Lydia Ann Miler 9-5-2021 to 10-4-2021

 Lydia Ann Miller  born at 10:50 PM 9•5•2021-10•4•2021

She weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and measures at 18.9 inches. She had a rough start unfortunately already, but it was just as we had been expecting due to her condition she has.

Baby Lydia had Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). This is where the diaphragm didn’t close like it should, and because of that it allowed other organs (her bowel loops, her liver and her gallbladder) to herniate (go into) her lung. This makes it so the lung cannot develop properly since it has other organs inside it. So we had to deliver at Vandy and they have a whole team who has been so kind and helpful. They had a great plan in place.  The amazing team at Vanderbilt has helped us so much. They had done everything they could. 

 

Due to her condition she required a lot of medical attention. She is was placed on an ECMO machine due to her ventilator not working like they were expecting. The ECMO takes her blood, and oxygenizes it for her and pushes it back into her body to help her get the appropriate levels of oxygen in her body. Its the highest form of life support. She had been on that since 10 hours after after her birth..

She unfortunately lost her battle on 10•4•2021 when it was decided she could not survive without the ECMO machine.. they removed her off of her ventilator, let us hold her for several hours since that was something we never got to do yet since she was born. They eventually had to turn off the ECMO machine as well, and she passed away peacefully in my arms at 5:08
PM.. no one should have to go through this, things will never feel right. She was so beautiful and this world took her away from us. Now we are left with the last month we had with her which means the world to me now. She fought SO hard to the end, and unfortunately it wasn’t enough. I don’t know why this had to happen, all I wanted was my baby to be okay.. I love you Lydia Ann, always.
