My name is Sara & I’m Luke’s older sister. It’s always been in my instinct to protect and support my “little” brother, but I cannot do it alone this time.
I just left the hospital....
I really want to do what I can to help my brother, Luke! He’s been admitted to the hospital (again), & it’s been a super rough couple years in and out of the hospital and especially terrible recently. He has not even been able to work the last couple months.
Suffering from Ulcerative Colitis, he has had multiple flares recently, which means fevers of 105, severe stomach pain, nausea & vomiting & severe frequent diarrhea, as well as anemia. He can’t eat, even though he’s starving, because it makes the pain worse. So he has to go days with only water.
Due to nutritional deficiency & prescription side effects he’s now dealing with an abcess tooth, infections in both eyes, sores popping up in random places on his body, muscle spasms, and talk of a possible blood transfusion. The list goes on, this poor guy needs a break & a fresh start. He’s trying to stay strong, but it’s extremely hard & I want to show him he’s not alone. I’m trying to get him down to UCSF where he can get some real medical care, but he’s currently in a lot of pain and on IV steroids and pain meds. Stuck in our local, rural hospital that does not have the resources or knowledge needed.
His gut flora is wrecked, they just keep trying to give him antibiotics. His immune system, and intestines are suffering badly & I want to do what I can to help ease the stress. He’s a hard working & responsible young man, who is about to loose his car, his belongings, and has overdue bills piling up! The financial stress is not helping his condition, and he’s sitting stuck in the hospital, stressing on all these bills.
Please, if you have it in your heart....if you have ever been helped by another compassionate person & have the means to pay it forward, anything helps at this point. The funds will go towards getting Luke the care he so desperately needs & helping him get back to square one.
This picture is Luke, our Mom, and Myself on mother’s day 2 years ago, before the medical issues started taking hold. My wish is to see him happy, healthy, and smiling again!
Thank you for your support and taking the time to hear Luke’s story.
