Helping Loyal Rescue's Gigi
Donation protected
Gigi has had a really rough go since arriving in Loyal Rescue in September of 2019. After being released from a puppy mill, this wee 7 lbs pomerarian has had a multitude of medical needs. Arriving with a dislocated hip, a FHO(femoral head osteotomy) operation was performed but was not successful in treating her pain. After having it reviewed by an orthopaedic veterinarian, it was discovered that her knee was as much of an issue as her hip and the only wise choice was to amputate the limb as there were no guarantees she would ever regain use of it. Fast forward to just before Christmas 2019, while recovering from her amputation, Gigi found herself unable to bear weight or stand on her two front legs. This found Gigi at a neurologist in Toronto this week for an MRI, spinal tap, bloodwork and a multitude of other tests. The results were disheartening. Gigi has meningoencephalitis (inflammation of the lining of her brain). We are awaiting further test results to determine if this is due to meningitis or an autoimmune condition. Our fingers are crossed for Gigi's recovery on her medications. As a Loyal rescue dog, we do all that is needed for the dogs in our care. Gigi's expenses have however been astronomical with 3 major surgeries/procedures in 3 months. Any funds raised will go to Gigi's medical expenses. Fingers crossed for her recovery.
