Helping Louie Find His Forever Home ❤️
Hello
We recently found a sweet pup we've named Louie, and he was in pretty rough shape. He was almost unconscious in the middle of a major mountain road about to get hit or cause a bad accident. He had horrible scarring and wounds around his neck from a life on a chain and was extremely emaciated. We're pretty sure he's never been to a vet before, and he needs to be neutered, get all his vaccinations, undergo heartworm testing, and potentially receive other medical attention. He is happy and eating now doesn't seem to be an extremely urgent situation but obviously he needs to go in asap.
Unfortunately, nearly every shelter and rescue is completely full right now. Rates of stray dogs have increased by 30% since COVID, and this time of the year is apparently the highest for abandoning animals and puppy births. They simply aren't built to handle how many are out there, and relief doesn't seem to be coming soon.
The only place required to take him is animal control, and we've been told by them that, sadly, it's pretty much a death sentence. He's the sweetest boy, and I just can't imagine not trying to do anything I can to keep that from happening.
While our hearts are big, our resources are currently stretched thin. We already share our home with two cats and two dogs. I've just started a new job, and my partner's finishing our home remodel, which has significantly depleted our savings, to say the least. On top of that, we recently spent a substantial amount on cancer treatment for one of our current dogs.
We know times are tough for everyone, and we're not looking for sympathy, but we are reaching out for help from the community to get Louie the best care possible, as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, most of the assistance programs for pets are also overwhelmed trying to help rescues and shelters afford to pay for all the new intake.
Because Louie isn't neutered and hasn't had his initial vet visit, we're concerned about introducing him to potential adopters and their existing pets.
(Luckily, given our situation, I've been able to keep all our animals at another house, but unfortunately, this isn't sustainable in the long term. We're trying to get him fixed ASAP so our dogs can go back to their home and be around him.)
Understandably, many people are also hesitant to adopt an unfixed male. That's why we're hoping to raise funds to get Louie into winning shape so he can find the loving home he deserves.
He's the sweetest, kindest dog, and he truly deserves a chance at a happy life. If you can help us support Louie, whether through a donation or by sharing his story, Alex and I would be forever grateful ❤️
***Louie is also available for adoption! He's currently located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, but we are willing to drive up to 12 hours to help him find the right family. Let's help Louie find his forever home!
Thank you all so much
*I will post and provide receipts for his vet visits to prove the money is only going to be used for Louies care. If you have any concerns feel free to reach out!
