Helping Little Lorenzo Tāne
Donation protected
Hi my names Giulianna & i’ve started this page as many people keep reaching out and asking how they can help support me, Braiden, Lucas and little Lorenzo as we navigate this touchy time in the NICU.
Sometimes things just aren’t easy... this is my second bubba & sadly i was a high risk pregnancy from the start due to multiple complications effecting me including: hyperemisis graviderium (HG) & irritable uterus. Constant admissions to hospital for monitoring of not only my health but Lorenzo’s, multiple injections to help & several bags of fluids every week as i couldn’t keep anything down orally & had lost so much weight.
At 26weeks & 3days I went into hospital as i had fainted at my local westfield that morning & was in severe pain for a few days now. After Braiden dropped me off braiden went with Lucas our 3yr old son while i was at the hospital being monitored as Lucas wasn’t allowed to stay. After spending over 24hrs in hospital the doctors finally got my blood test results which indicated severe blood loss which they couldn’t pin point where. I called my partner Braiden who then rushed back to the hospital with Lucas as the news of an emergency c-section was going to happen shortly to save both mine & Lorenzo’s lives. 30mins after the results at 4:24pm on August 20th 2023 Lorenzo Tāne was born at 26weeks & 4days. I lost over 90% of all the blood in my body and had to have several blood transfusions & was in ICU several hours after the C-section. Doctors & surgeons all said it was a complete silent/concealed placental abruption which is rare but the fatality rate is extremely high unfortunately but we both fought through it.
Braiden had to take a week off work to help support me in recovery as well as be by our son Lorenzo’s bed side. Due to financial difficulties he had to go back to work & works long hours so it has been super difficult for him to spend time with Lorenzo, every weekend he is holding & cuddling his sweet boy.
I sadly have only been able to go visit Lorenzo in nicu while my older boy Lucas has been in daycare which is 3x a week & weekends as sadly their nicu will not allow other visitors so it’s been tough especially as I wasn’t allowed to drive for 6weeks after her C-section.
Lorenzo has defied the odds being born 26 weeks and 4 days, 14weeks early that’s 3 & 1/2months before his due date.
On 20/08/2023 little miracle Lorenzo Tāne came into this world at a tiny bit mighty 1155g and ready to fight. In his past 8 weeks of living earth-side he has fought through many challenges which have come from his super premature birth including:
- Severely immature lungs requiring ongoing breathing support and steroids.
- Chronic lung disease.
- A large PDA of the heart requiring risky medication multiple times & potential surgery to close.
- Bleeding in his abdomen.
But in all this, he has had his amazingly beautiful loving parents right by his side. Reminding him just how strong, brave, and loved he is.
Lorenzo has a long road ahead and will continue to need specialised care and support until he is big enough and strong enough to go home and meet his big brother Lucas who’s so excited to finally meet his little brother. We’ve been told the best case scenario won’t be until his actual due date the 22nd of November but things can always change.
Lorenzo may be small but he is mighty and already has a huge community behind him…a community from both Giulianna and Braidens sides of the family and friends. They are the kind of people you know you can always count on and who are always willing to be there for others in need. We would love to be able to now, help hold them up a little during this time.
All the funds raised will be used to help with the ever-growing amount of bills rolling in and to help support Lorenzo’s ongoing care in the NICU as well as out of nicu as he will have to see specialists for his heart & to monitor him as he was/ is a 26weeker baby. It will also allow myself and Braiden to continue to be by Lorenzo’s side without having to worry about all the other stressors at the moment.
Thanks so much for any donations given we are so grateful for each and every one. If you are unable to donate at this time we understand, but would be so grateful and appreciative for even just share of this page.
Thank you all for your support. I’ve been posting regular updates of sweet lorenzo on my facebook (Giulianna Barbosa).
