Helping Lisa navigate grief, cancer and finances

Donation protected
Lisa is a mother, a grandmother, an aunt, a former school teacher, a caring volunteer, a devoted Christian and one of the most loving women you could ever meet. Before her health declined, she poured her heart into her community, her church, and everyone around her. She was the kind of person who showed up, who gave, who cared deeply.

During COVID, Lisa suffered a medical emergency after catching Covid and complications that left her on life support in a medically induced coma. Doctors did not expect her to survive but she defied the odds. She fought her way back and survived something most people never return from. However, the incident left her with significant brain damage and permanent disability. Since then, she has been unable to work and relied on disability payments, with her only child, Justin, serving as her conservator.

Justin was not only her son, he was her support system, her advocate, her steady foundation. He made sure she never went without. But almost two months ago, Justin passed away unexpectedly. His loss has shattered Lisa’s world. On top of losing her only child, she has now also lost the financial and legal support he provided.

Because Justin was her conservator, her disability payments stopped immediately after his passing. The court process to appoint a new conservator is long, slow, and full of red tape. Until that happens, Lisa has no income at all.

As if that weren’t enough, Lisa was recently diagnosed with cancer. She underwent surgery around the time Justin passed, but it wasn’t effective, and she is now going through grueling chemotherapy. The treatment is exhausting mentally, emotionally, and physically and the timing could not be more devastating. She is mourning her son while fighting for her life, all while worrying about how she will afford basic necessities. Her close family, myself included help as much as we can, however the loss of Justin has significantly impacted us all.

To be transparent, the proceeds will be helping Lisa keep her condo, obtain transportation to all of her medical appointments and in general (she doesn’t have a car), medical costs that insurance may not cover, daily living expenses, and basic bills.

Furthermore, all funds from this GoFundMe will go directly to Lisa. Justin’s aunt has opened a dedicated account in Lisa’s name so that every dollar donated is used exclusively for her care and needs.

Lisa has survived the impossible once. She has always been the one who gave, who served, who lifted others up. Now she’s the one who needs help, not just to get through cancer treatment, but to simply survive this impossible moment of grieving, healing, and rebuilding.

Any amount you can give, no matter how small, will help Lisa keep her lights on, get to her appointments, and focus on fighting cancer instead of fighting for basic necessities. Even sharing this campaign means the world.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for supporting Lisa during the hardest chapter of her life.
