Helping Lisa "Guido" Hanson LPHS Class of 85
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Michele (Shelley) Block. I am starting this Go Fund Me page on behalf of Lisa Hanson. Former classmate and lifelong friend to many. Lisa has always had a smile and a big heart for those near and dear to her, and Lisa needs our help to keep that smile going. Here is a little background.
Back during the beginning of Covid, Lisa was working from home. In March of 2021, her job ended, ending her health insurance. Lisa has a history of Thyroid Cancer. At the same time employed, she would have weekly infusions of Synthroid Levothyroxine. Her body does not absorb medications as it should. This medication was at the cost of around $5000 before insurance paid. Once she no longer had insurance, she could no longer afford the infusions or the pill form medication to replace the infusions. In November of 2021, I called Lisa and could tell there was something terribly wrong. She had slurred speech and was very hard to understand. When I questioned her about what was wrong, she did not know and did or not have health insurance, so she had not gone to the doctor. Once seeing Lisa, I realized it was even worse than first thought as Lisa has very poor balance and hand coordination as well. I rounded up some of my resources to help her get some insurance through the Marketplace during open enrollment. Once she had some health insurance, we began making some doctor appointments to see what we could find out.
Lisa has had 3 MRIs, genetic testing and a weeks’ worth of steroid infusions. Through all of this testing they have not found the cause of these symptoms. The neurologist has now sent a referral to Mayo Clinic, which is still in review.
During all of this Lisa was living on a second-floor apartment and we have since moved to a main floor apartment. Lisa has been living off her 401K which is now gone. She has applied for disability for the second time with an upcoming meeting but will probably need to get a lawyer, since there is no diagnosis for her to file with - only Ataxia which is a symptom not a diagnosis. She can longer afford to live in her Sioux Falls apartment and there is a waiting list for any income-based housing there. We have found Lisa a income-based apartment in Arlington. Her lease signing date is July 15th. Even though there will be no rent she still will have deposits that need to be paid prior to moving in.
Any monies raised will be used for moving costs, trip to Mayo if approved and day to day living until, we can get her approved for disability
