Helping Laura, a friend in need!

Donation protected
Hi Everyone! I wanted to start a small GoFundMe in support of my Mom, Laura. As many of you may know, she has been dealing with some pretty tough medical issues in the past year. The last few months have been challenging, to say the least.

April 28th was the last day that she worked a full day of work. She was in declining health at that point and just trying to make it to a scheduled appointment in Indianapolis for a consult with a specialist for her medical issue. This appointment was for May 22nd. The powers that be had other plans for her...she was admitted on April 29th (the next day after working 3 weeks straight without a day off) and was transported via ambulance to Indianapolis University Hospital for an emergency feeding tube placement. She then weighed only 84 lbs. Her body was failing her. After a 6-day stay in Indianapolis, she was discharged with very little knowledge of what her "new normal" would be like with her feeding tube. (If you know her, she LOVES to eat! lol)

She is diagnosed with Stage 4 Achalasia (Jack Hammer Esophagus). A disease that affects the movement of muscles in the esophagus that is essential for swallowing food/water. Although it tends to be a lifelong condition, with symptom management, you can avoid the most serious complications of achalasia, such as aspiration, choking and malnutrition. She underwent a procedure on June 6th and is slowly healing and making progress but will never be cured of her issues with eating. Making it difficult to eat and drink, something that I know I definitely took for granted before seeing what happened with her.

With determination and patience, she has finally reached the weight of 100 lbs. This is not an ideal weight, but a win in our book! She is currently still off on medical leave and is running out of resources to keep her afloat with essential expenses (rent, electric, etc.) This will soon run out.

She is not the one to ask for a handout, this is why I am doing this GoFundMe. Her doctor has stated that she most likely will NOT return to work anytime soon and this may affect her benefits through her employer. Like everyone else in the world, money is tight...but in her case, it may be non-existent in the future.

She is always the one to help out a friend in need with whatever she has to spare to give. With that being said, any contribution may help with her unknown future regarding her benefits through work being lost. We are working towards long-term disability but as many of you know, it is a battle just to be considered for this. Her doctors feel this is something that she would qualify for, but it's a waiting game. This is another reason why I am here doing this, it is to give her a little security when she is at her most vulnerable.

Please consider helping a friend out in need. Again, this is something that she wouldn't do herself, so I am making sure someone is here to tell her story. Everyone needs a little help now and then, especially when they are sick, tired, and honestly....alone. Strength in numbers is the best way I know how to solve a problem, hopefully everyone has a little compassion and feels the same way.

Thank you so much for reading! Even a kind word would benefit as well! :)
