Helping Kaylyn Heal

Hi! My name is Amanda Kosmus, and I am raising money to help Ashley and Andy Mayer pay for the medical attention their daughter, Kaylyn, desperately needs. Kaylyn contracted Covid, at age 14, back in September. She handled the virus well and went back to daily life for two weeks. Then, she woke up one morning with a high fever and severe pain. She went to her doctor, Children’s of Alabama, and to a gastro specialist, a heart doctor, and an infectious disease doctor at Children’s in Birmingham. She never got better. She remained too weak and in too much pain to function daily. She has never had enough energy to go back to school or to even spend time with loved ones. She has been in immense pain and unable to eat, so her parents flew her to The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota the week before Christmas. This is where she was admitted and remained for almost a month. In order to help her gain weight and energy, she was given a feeding tube. She came home Tuesday, January 11th with the feeding tube and knowing she has to go back to Minnesota for 3 weeks to be in The Mayo Clinic’s Adolescent PRC Program. The doctors believe this program is her only chance of living a semi- normal life. Unfortunately, it is very expensive ($47,000), her insurance (BCBS) is refusing to pay, and she is scheduled to go at the end of February.  She is 15 now, and she deserves the very best chance of being a normal teenager again, so please give any amount your heart leads you to give in order to get Kaylyn the help she needs.
