these funds will be distributed to Kasey Lee and Shawn to assist in emergency items to help them rebuild their property that they lost this will be in the way of food shelter necessary items like electricity plumbing. Jason, Shell and Bree are launching this GoFundMe to support Kasey-Lee, Shawn (Tinker), Hudson, Marilyn, Jane, and Megan Thomas during an incredibly difficult time.
Last Thursday, as the Longwood fire threatened their family farm in Yarck, Shell evacuated Hudson back to Melbourne. Kasey-Lee, Shawn, Marilyn, Megan, and Jane, along with their beloved pets Youi (cat), Oz, and Dakota (dogs), had to evacuate with almost nothing, finding safety at a relief center in Healesville.
Less than 24 hours later, the fire devastated their town, confirming their worst fears. The home they built 15 years ago, filled with irreplaceable possessions, photos, and cherished memories, is now gone.
The fire also destroyed Shawn's workshop, was full of tools, parts, and his prized purple Falcon ute, "Tinker's Toy." Kasey-Lee lost all her new tools and a car she was rebuilding. Hudson's motorbike, Marilyn's family heirlooms (including her mother's jewelry), and Megan and Jane's years of collected memorabilia were also lost.
They escaped with only the clothes on their backs, losing everything they owned. We are grateful they survived.
Due to severe financial hardship and unemployment among the adults in the family, they unfortunately did not have insurance
Since the fire, they've been moved between locations and have had to pay for accommodation, as relief centers have turned them away (an issue currently being investigated). Marilyn is an aged pensioner, Megan is on disability support, Jane receives carer's allowance, and Shawn is on jobseeker. Kasey-Lee has been unable to return to work due to road closures and ongoing fire activity.
A working bee and donations are being organized to help the family, and Shell is coordinating these efforts.
Funds raised will help cover immediate living costs, clear the property, and begin the long process of rebuilding.
We understand and appreciate the outpouring of support for this family. Every offer of physical help with clean-up and rebuilding, as well as every donation, is deeply valued.
Every contribution will help them start anew. Please show your support and give generously if you can.
Thank you,
Jason, Shell and Bree
