I created this for my 23 year old cousin Kara that was recently injured in a horrible car accident.
Last Sunday Kara and her boyfriend of 5 years, Erick left their apartment to pick up some pizza and were t-boned by a reckless driver driving at a high speed. A normal Sunday turned into chaos as that driver ran a red light and smashed into their car. Moments later both of them, including the other driver were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for injuries.
Kara sustained multiple injuries including a broken clavicle, a broken ankle, lacerations to both hips and bruises to her face, nose and chest (where the airbag deployed.). The entire right side of her body sustained multiple fractures as the car collided into an electrical box on her side of the vehicle during the crash.
Luckily, both Kara and Erick were both wearing their seat beats, because their accident could’ve easily been fatal. The car was totaled as the front end was completely destroyed. (The angels were looking out for them both!)
Erick was released from the hospital with torn ligaments in his shoulder and whiplash. Unfortunately Kara was transferred to a nearby hospital to undergo surgery for her broken ankle where they placed a steel rod and screws into her bone to repair the break.
It is going to be a long journey back to recovery, with weekly physical therapy for her ankle, and learning to regain strength on her right side with the broken collarbone.
Karebear (as the family calls her) is a strong, resilient, hardworking young woman. She works at a local grocery store (Publix) and she is in school full time to become a paralegal. But like many of us, she is scraping by financially. When you live check to check, a brief lapse in income can be disastrous. Right now she doesn’t know how long she will be out of work because her job requires the use of both arms (she is a cashier), standing and lifting, none of which she can do with her current injuries.
Obviously, this accident has been very traumatic for Kara but as the time passes, the stress is starting to build because the worry of how she is going to pay rent, buy groceries, and keep up with her monthly bills is now becoming a real concern (and she hasn’t even left the hospital yet).
She needs help. Any money that you can donate is appreciated, and we are all very grateful for ANY contribution.
