Helping Judhe Jensen of Wizard's Toys after Fire
"There are Dragons in Kansas"
Some examples of her pottery.
Judhe Jensen of Wizard Toys at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival has fallen on hard times. In April 2021, this last spring, vandals set her house on fire. It had been built in 1870, (151 years old), and it was totally destroyed. Neighbors saw the flames and rescued her, and her tuxedo cat, Spatz. Spatz suffered some burns, and was taken to a vet. Judhe was fine, but lost everything.
Judhe's house was her studio/workshop. She had lived there for almost 50 years, and had built a library of art books, and had amassed many tools for both her ceramic arts and for her drawing and illustrations. She even had her own extra large kilns. She also had costumes/garb she had collected from over 40 years of showing at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. All gone. Judhe walked away with a handful of clothes, and her cat.
So, Judhe is hoping to rebuild her life. She wants to buy another home eventually. For now, she is living on the couch of friends in Lawrence, Ks. She wants to replace supplies for her arts, buy clothes, food. She wants to save money to buy another home/studio. In her words, "I want a place to live and work and create, but more importantly, I want to create, keep creating, and work towards creating a new home to live and work in. I'm not one to sit around on my ever widening behind, I want to be the force that makes it happen."
Judhe won't be showing at the 2021 Kansas City Renaissance Festival, but a small amount of her work will be represented in her booth, which is being rented by another artist for this year. But she hopes to be back at full strength by next year. Anything you can spare to help one of the most amazing artists I've had the fortune of knowing and being inspired by is greatly appreciated.
