Helping Joyce get home
Donation protected
UPDATE (from Ayse): Thank you, everyone who donated to this fundraiser and others who helped out in other ways. Joyce and her sister have flown back to Dallas first class on British Airways (special thanks to Jason Sharman who made this possible with his Qantas miles) on Friday, June 5 (also the 10th year wedding anniversary of Joyce and Aaron). Joyce also now has access to the funds we raised and can use them towards her hospice care and other expenses. She very much appreciates the outpouring of love and support from you all.
If you are here because you still want to help out Joyce, there will be another chance to donate when Corpus Christi sets up a scholarship or prize in Aaron's memory. We will also publicise that when we have more information.
ORIGINAL FUNDRAISING NOTE:
As you know, Aaron passed away on June 27 after a four year battle with cancer. In the midst of this unimaginable grief, Joyce herself is in fragile health. Joyce is struggling with the logistics of dismantling a household and finding her way back to her family home in Texas to seek hospice care. She will be travelling there very soon, before her condition gets worse. There is no way make this better, but we think it it’s important that Joyce have as comfortable as possible a journey back to Texas.
We are seeking donations toward the cost of a business class plane ticket/upgrade from London to Texas, as Joyce is not in a physical condition fly in coach. She cannot sit down for extended periods and would need to lie down.
We have not asked Joyce’s permission in seeking these donations (so please do not share this on social media but only by word of mouth), but we will coordinate with Joyce’s sister to assist with the purchase of her ticket and pass on the donations received. If any funds are left over, they will go towards hospice expenses.
