- Hi my name is Jessica and I'm fundraising for my mother Joyce Dutton.
In November 2020 while receiving a blood transfusion at Stanford Hospital (one of three during the past year due to severe Anemia) the doctors discovered several compound fractures in Joyce's spine. During a brief hospitalization at Stanford Hospital several bone specialists diagnosed Joyce with a severe and progressive form of Osteoporosis. Most healthy humans live with up to 100% bone density. Joyce is surviving on 12%, causing any and all, everyday events to be extremely threatening to her overall health.
The fractures that Osteoporosis have created are the first of a list of diagnoses causing a nearly unbearable amount of pain for Joyce 24 hours a day. Under her Doctors orders Joyce has been bed bound since November 2020. She has remained in bed except for her appointments with specialists at Stanford Hospital. Joyce is also being treated for Emphysema, four heart conditions, COPD and Chronic Anemia. Hematocrit is the ratio of the volume of red blood cells to the volume of all components together, called whole blood. A normal hematocrit level for women is 36-40%. Joyce's hematocrit is less than 4%.
Joyce has dedicated her entire adult life to raising children. Her 50+ year career as a Nanny has given over 2 dozen children, now adults, a loving foundation, a necessity for a successful transition into a loving adult. Joyce remains in contact with them over the years to this day.
The Covid 19 pandemic ended Joyce's last job with the family she had worked with for 3 years. This helped form the perfect storm of financial challenges she is currently facing.
Joyce's Doctors, all specialists in their fields at Stanford Hospital, have formed a recovery plan to help Joyce become a self sufficient adult again over the next two years.
Joyce desperately needs financial help to allow her to heal while maintaining her apartment and to pay for vital medications in which her insurance company refuses to cover. Joyce is currently fighting eviction, having received a 3 day pay or quit 3 days ago. Losing her home would render her homeless, forcing her to live in and fight her health issues in a homeless shelter or worse fighting for her life on the street. This obviously would be devastating. The financial help she graciously and humbly is asking for is a lifeline. We all deserve to have dignity in this fight. This support will allow:
- Joyce to resolve her eviction, pay her rent and pay for day to day expenses.
- Her to afford current registration for her vehicle as well as insurance and tags. Her vehicle is the only form of transportation she has to and from her doctors appointments and to be used for picking up prescribed medications at the local pharmacy.
- Her to pay for life saving medications her insurance company have refused to cover.
Joyce has applied for a space in Senior housing facilities. She has been denied due to her poor credit score. Her career did not afford her the padding of a 401k or retirement funds. She has had to choose which bills to pay and how much. This has resulted in late fees and the doubling of some of her monies owed.
Joyce has a deep and abiding faith in the spirit of humanity and of generosity extended to others. Joyce remains optimistic and full of hope to recover. Blessings to all who can contribute financially.
CHRISTMAS 2021 UPDATE FROM JOYCE
I hope you are well. In the past 6 months I have undergone 3 back surgeries and one procedure where lasers were used to burn off nerve endings. I have one more to go. My left knee will be replaced in the next 2-3 months. I am in a constant state of healing. It's a long , slow and arduous journey.
I hope and pray for good will and wishes to you all throughout the upcoming holidays.
