In an effort to relieve Joanie (my mom ❤️) of any outside stressors so she can focus all of her mental, emotional, and physical strength on herself and her healing journey, I started this fundraiser. Anyone that knows Joanie knows she is just as amazingly strong and resilient as she is compassionate and kind. The short-term and long-term future of her healing journey is still very unknown to all of us, but it is definite that she will not be able to work and function at her normal capacity for quite a while. There have been some recent financial stressors starting to pile up with medical, automobile, and living expenses.

Joanie was in a devastating car wreck on March 15, 2023, after leaving her early morning workout at the YMCA. Another driver's vehicle swerved into her lane around a curve and hit Joanie in a head-on collision. Emergency responders managed to get Joanie untrapped and out of her vehicle to rush her to the hospital. Joanie immediately underwent a four-hour surgery to find and stop internal bleeding. The Erlanger Trauma Surgeon Team managed to save her life, but she has many internal and external injuries left to conquer. She lost nine inches of her intestines, spinal/vascular injuries, and many broken and crushed bones throughout her body.

Joanie spent time in the trauma ICU before being discharged to a medical room and then transferred to Siskin Hospital to focus on healing and getting stronger. It has been a scary few weeks, but she is now alert and motivated to get herself strong enough to get back home. We learned on March 31, 2023, that her other ankle and heel have broken bones too, so her physical therapy has been paused until those bones have more time to heal. This has all taken a toll on her mental, emotional, and physical health. She is fighting as hard as she can but still has a long road of recovery ahead of her.

As always, I am in awe of her strength, determination, and positive mindset! We are all lucky that we still have her around to show us true strength and love. ❤️
