Helping Jay & his family whilst Jay awaits a new heart
Donation protected
This is a fundraising page set up to help my beautiful boy Jay & our family during this really really difficult trying time.
Jay is a very resilient, intelligent, kind, caring, young boy who just wants to live a normal quality of life. Sadly in recent years Jay has been unable to do this as his heart condition has become progressively worse.
Jay has a genetic heart condition called Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy also known as sudden death. His heart condition is life threatening and Jay is currently terminal. His uncle Sadly passed away from the same condition in 2009 At only 17 years old. Jay was only 8 months when he passed away.
Early September this year things took a turn for the worst and Jay suffered a cardiac arrest. He suffered what they call a VT storm where his heart was in abnormal rhythm with a heart rate through the roof resulting in him collapsing. I thought he wasn’t going to make it as we were administering CPR and shocks with the defib.
As a mother my whole world turned upside down.
As a result, Jay is currently in his cardiac hospital Royal Brompton Hospital where he’s been looked after all his life. During his time here he’s had to have surgery whilst awaiting heart transplantation. During surgery they tore a thoriatic duct and this made Jay’s recovery even slower than expected. This has caused him a lot of unnecessary psychological stress.
Jay unfortunately didn’t make it back to school after the summer holidays where he would have been going into Year 11 in his final year at school doing his GCSE’s. Jay REALLY wanted to do this last year and was set to get top Grade’s in his subjects chosen. Despite Jay’s medical setbacks Jay never lets these get him down and he tries his utmost hardest to go to school and achieve his very best.
This is Jay’s second cardiac arrest. He also had one May time last year which again, he just scraped through.
Unfortunately this time around we have been told there’s nothing more that they can do with Jay’s heart and they have exhausted all avenues and Jay has had to be put on the urgent list for heart transplantation. Jay will remain in hospital until a suitable donor has been matched with Jay.
This has completely torn us as a family. I have been staying with Jay in hospital since September and until we await that life saving call. Jay’s little brother is currently staying with dad and Nanny. But this very difficult as they also have to work.
It has completely torn us apart as a family especially as Jay and his little brother are so so close. They are missing each other IMMENSELY. I am missing my gorgeous little boy also. I just want us altogether again.
This page has been set up because as you can imagine the current circumstances are a huge financial strain especially with myself (mum) not being able to return to work as I have to look after Jay as he is now terminal.
Hospital stays really really add up when living there for so long. Food, travel ect….
I’m trying my hardest to keep the family together but the financial burden is making it not possible.
Please donate if you can, share this page and help spread awareness about Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and to always get checked if in doubt! Never ignore any signs and symptoms. Also, how important organ donation is. I never in a million years thought it would get to this point so quickly but if anyone deserves a good quality of life then it’s my dear son Jay. He is so smart and has a lot to give to the world. He knows what he wants in life and he’s not giving up just yet. He’s only just started.
I love you Jay….. To the moon & back again ❤️
