Helping Jake Reclaim Daily Life on the Family Farm

At just 29 years old, Jacob “Jake” Pritchard Webb has already endured more than most people face in a lifetime. A former jockey, Jake suffered catastrophic spinal injuries following a racing accident in France several years ago.

The accident left him with a broken C6 vertebra in his neck, fractures to T3, T4 and T6 in his spine, a dislocated C7 vertebra, four broken ribs, a fractured sternum, and a damaged left lung. The severity of his injuries left his family facing an uncertain future and Jake fighting for his life. After six months in the hospital, his life changed forever. The injuries left him paralysed from the chest down and wheelchair dependent, forcing him to rebuild his future from the ground up.

But Jake refused to let tragedy define him.

Today, back home in Wales, he has taken up sheep farming alongside his grandparents—embracing a new life with determination, humor, and remarkable resilience. Despite everything he has faced, Jake remains an outgoing, positive young man whose strength continues to inspire everyone around him.

Yet daily life on the farm presents constant challenges.

The farmyard is old, uneven, muddy, and covered in rough stone surfaces that make wheelchair access incredibly difficult. Something as simple as crossing the yard, reaching the sheds, or opening and closing barn doors can become exhausting and physically draining. What many would consider small daily tasks are, for Jake, an ongoing battle. This fundraiser aims to change that. We are hoping to raise £35,000 to level and concrete key areas of the farmyard, as well as create an accessible pathway to the lower covered shed. These improvements would transform Jake’s day-to-day life—giving him greater independence, conserving precious energy, improving safety, and allowing him to work more freely on the farm he loves.

For many people, concrete is simply a building material.

For Jake, it represents freedom of movement, independence, and the ability to participate fully in daily farm life. Uneven ground is the single greatest barrier he faces every day.

Unfortunately, there is no other source of support available for this work. Access to Work, the UK government program that helps disabled people enter and remain in employment, does not fund concrete surfacing, as it is regarded as a product that anyone can purchase regardless of ability.

Yet in Jake’s case, suitable surfacing is not a convenience—it is an essential accessibility requirement that would profoundly improve his ability to live and work independently.

The timing of this support has become even more important following the heartbreaking loss of Jake’s grandfather, Derrick, who passed away from a brain tumor just ten months ago. Since then, Jake and his 71-year-old grandmother—a remarkable and tireless force of nature in her own right—have continued managing the farm together. This is not about luxury. It is about dignity, accessibility, independence, and giving a young man the practical support needed to continue building a meaningful life after devastating injury.
