This is Jack Genovese, a 14 year-old aspiring D1 college hockey player. His Club team, the New Jersey Colonials, was the second ranked team in the US last year. Jack grew up in city housing with his three younger siblings in NYC, what people would call the projects, and lives in the same apartment his father Danny grew up in. Hockey saved his father. Hockey gave him something to aspire towards, a distraction. Danny ultimately went on to play Junior Hockey in British Columbia and play college hockey. He wants to give his son Jack the same opportunity. Jack was recently accepted at Delbarton, a prep school in New Jersey, where he is currently studying.
After finding out that Jack was accepted to Delbarton, the Genovese family had intended to move to New Jersey, but unfortunately Danny was furloughed from his position as the men’s hockey Director at Chelsea Piers in NYC at the beginning of the pandemic. This is not a sad story, but one of giving a great kid an opportunity, and providing some support to a family that doesn’t have the means to make it happen at the moment.
