On Monday, March 16, after a major rainstorm hit our area, a tree (weighing 7 tons and standing 70 feet tall) fell into Iris’ home and crushed the roof of her car: https://www.wral.com/news/local/tree-house-durham-red-oak-march-2026/.
Iris' family had just moved back into the home following a lengthy renovation project. Now, they aren't sure how long they will be displaced.
Thankfully Iris, her husband, and their 4-year old grandson are ok, but the damage to their home is extensive. Anyone who has been to her home knows how much incredible artwork, books, historical documents, photographs and memories she has throughout her home. It is devastating to see the images from outside and inside her home and to think about what a terrifying experience it must have been.
If you are able to contribute, your gifts will help with moving expenses, temporary housing, meals, and much more. I know Iris has a village far and wide that love and cherish her as much as I do. Please continue to send lots of love and prayers her way. It truly means so much!
With gratitude, love and appreciation,
Sharon Holmes Thomas
