Hudson’s story told in his fathers words on June 16 2018....
We are at a loss for words and struggling how to share this news, but our little boy is going through a tough battle right now, and we need everyone to keep Hudson in their thoughts and prayers....
Early Thursday morning before work I noticed he was a little warm and decided to check his temperature before I left for the day. It read 102.1 degrees at 7:30am.
We immediately left for the emergency room in Monticello. When we got there they took his temp at 8:10am. He was at 104.7 degrees. We were terrified.
The medical staff told us they needed to start emergency procedures right away. Hudson was hooked up to an IV through his head and had blood, urine, and spinal fluid tested. The results revealed cloudy spinal fluid which was not a good sign. They immediately put him on various antibiotics and was going to be transferred to St Cloud Hospital.
Megan rode with our sick little boy in the ambulance while I followed. Once admitted, he was hooked up to machines, pricked and prodded, and placed on a massive cocktail of strong antibiotics. We were told that the next 48 hours were crucial and that everything would be done to save him.
After waiting for 2 days for the spinal fluid cultures , we finally had the results we so needed. Hudson had Listeria meningitis, a rare form of bacterial meningitis. There are only 1600 cases throughout the US in a year.
He has been so strong and fighting hard for 5 days now and is currently in stable condition. He will require 3-4 weeks of hospitalization including IV antibiotics, brain ultrasounds/MRIs, and developmental testing.
No matter your spiritual or religious beliefs, please keep Hudson in your thoughts and prayers. Your support is appreciated as we go through this difficult time.
