Helping Hercules Heal

Donation protected
Meet Hercules, this tiny boy has been through more in his short life than we can even begin to imagine.

A couple weeks ago he was found abandoned in a plant nursery and taken to

Manatee County Animal services. There he was treated for coccidia, hookworms, roundworms, an upper respiratory infection, and an eye infection. Unfortunately his eye could not be saved and they had to remove it.

After over 2 weeks at the shelter they discovered he had not one, but TWO broken back legs. I can not imagine the pain he has been in. (No bashing. Shelters are busy and things can easily be missed this time of year). I saw a post late one night on an emergency rehoming page on Facebook looking for a foster for him through the shelter as he’s skittish/semi feral. So in the morning I reached out to the shelter to see if I could pull him and take him to our orthopedic surgeon to see about getting him surgery to correct his legs. I wasn’t real clear on their plan but it didn’t seem to include orthopedic surgery, I could be wrong though.

As you can see by the X-rays, his legs are a mess. We took him into our orthopedic surgeon and he’s pretty confident he can fix BOTH legs! He’s staying the night and having all his preop stuff done and tomorrow will be having surgery to fix his worst leg. His femur is actually starting to wear through the skin, I got to feel it today, that was a new one for me. I feel so bad for Hercules. They will attempt to fix the other at the same time but they do not want to keep him under anesthesia longer than an hour due to his small size, so he will likely require a second surgery for his other leg, that leg already has some calcification due to how long he was sitting there with the break being untouched and he will have to rebreak/drill away at the calcification so he can align the bones.

This is going to be a MASSIVE bill and we desperately need your help to cover it. It will have to be paid in full at time of pickup. Please consider skipping that morning Starbucks and donating a couple dollars. Even just $1 adds up. We have thousands of followers and if even just 1/4 donated we would be set!

We’ve been told saving kittens like Hercules aren’t worth it, and money could be better spent elsewhere. But how do you look him in the eyes and tell him his life is any less important? He deserves a happy life too!

Please donate, pray, and share! Thank you for your support!
