Helping Heather in C-Town
One of our own, Heather (Verbaan) Maurer, was diagnosed with breast Cancer a short time ago. Heather is a Clawson alumni who has put in many hours of volunteering and helping out this community, in front and behind the scenes for many years. Now it’s our turn to make a difference and help Heather and her family get through this journey.
Heather is a resident of Clawson and a Detroit Public school teacher of 23 years. Her first love will always be her husband Brian and their 2 kids, Jude (10th grade) and Ellie (8th grade), and we can’t forget their 2 dogs, Kiwi and Lincoln!
While they are raising their family, working, and volunteering whenever they are needed, this family will need and deserves all the community support we can give. Heather is the Vice President of CHS and CMS PTO, a Striker volunteer and has spent many hours on the bond committee for CPS schools. Brian is also a big part of this community, a Paraprofessional at CHS, he coaches girls basketball and softball and is a sports announcer for soccer and football.
Heather was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma Estrogen and Progesterone positive. The surgery to remove the Cancer is on March 22nd, with radiation and hormone blockers to follow.
This journey is a long one, with lots of up and downs, the last thing that anyone should have to worry about is money during this difficult time. Between time off work, medical bills, everyday bills, raising and feeding a family, we need to make sure this amazing Clawson family is taken care of, and we need your help. Anything and everything is so appreciated, please do your part and help the Maurer’s. Heather is a tough one, she will overcome this battle, I hope this little city with a big heart, will help clear the path and make it a little easier for them.
Thank you in advance for making a difference!
