COVID-19 RELIEF FUND FOR MEDIA LUNA RESORT AND SPA WORKERS

Since March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has shut down all tourist activities on the island of Roatan, Honduras. No more tourist means no more jobs. And no more jobs means no more income. Indeed, Hondurian companies and government do not support their people by far as much as Canadian companies and governments do! The situation becoming worse every day , we decided to organize a grassroots operation to bring moral support and financial aid to help the workers of the Media Luna Resort & Spa. ◀ VERSION FRANÇAISE ▶ Cliquez ici !




WHO WE ARE

In September 2016, a Facebook group was created to share our experience and inform potential visitors about the great vacation experience we had at Media Luna Resort & Spa in the island of Roatan, Honduras. Since then the group has grown ±1500 Canadian members, providing a place to ask questions, share pictures, engage in discussion and connect with strangers who have been or may become friends on our next trips. We all share a love for this tropical heaven, and the fantastic workers who make each moment of our stays so special.

A small team from our Facebook group have organized to spearhead this relief effort. We wish to work quickly, effectively, and most importantly, transparently. This is why all efforts are being coordinated together and in direct cooperation with the workers there.

While we cannot do much from here, we can provide some peace of mind for our hosts at the resort through monetary donations . We love this place, the beauty of the reefs, don't we? We regularly express our gratitude for the hospitality of the people that look after us while we stay there. It is time now to act and provide back what we can!

HOW DOES IT WORK

 The goal of this fundraiser is to ensure that all staff at Media Luna Resort & Spa receive a fair share of our help, including the staff that are more ‘behind the scenes’ than others. We are connected to a group of contacts  from all of the staff teams, namely:

- Waiters
- Cuisine
- Bartenders
- Winery and Boutique
- Front Desk / Office
- Spa
- Animation (activities and shows)
- Lifeguards (beach, decks and swimming pool)
- Gardeners
- Chambermaids
- Laundry & Cleaning
- Maintenance
- Security and Power Generation

This is also crucial because we must make sure that all our donations will be directly distributed to each team, and from each team to each worker. There will be no middleman, no commercial organization or charity involved. This will help ensure a fair, democratic, and effective process.

PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING AS MUCH AS YOU CAN NOW!

In fact, the above goal is not much once divided by 130 families. We hope it will be surpassed and we may even upgrade it after the first money transfer (we'll let you know about it) if the situation requires that we do more for our Media Luna family!
