Helping hands for Dan the man

Hi everyone 

Thanks for taking the time out to read this. For those who are not aware, my dad Dan had a massive stroke on the 7th of March and had to undergo an intrusive, aggressive brain surgery in an attempt to save his life. He only had a 50% chance of surviving, but he kicked that surgeries ASS and thankfully he is still with us. 

This stroke was a beast, and the damage to my dad's brain is significant. He is completely paralyzed on the right side of his body, and is currently only able to move his left arm and leg. He's also lost most of his ability to speak, which has made communicating with him a seemingly impossible task for the present time. He can manage about 2 words, and he acknowledges that he can understand us to an extent, but that seems to be his limit. 

For those of you who know my dad personally, to know him is to love him. He's the single funniest person I know, and to see him so defeated, unable to joke with us, speak with us, live his life independently or just be my DAD has been a difficulty none of us had been prepared for or could have imagined. 

This is his most recent update:
Dad got moved from the ICU to a full time rehabilitation center where they will be working on physical, occupational, and speech therapy every day. He will be at this center over the next 3 weeks while he works tirelessly to get his life back to normal as much as he possibly can, and then it will be time for us to bring him home.  

Being unable to walk or speak is going to require assistance from a caregiver, so we're going to have to hire some help for when he returns back to us. 

Guys. To say that this has been insane is an understatement. I'm always on the other side of the GoFundMe, donating to causes as opposed to being the one who has to ask for help. But the fact is that we need as much help as we can get. 

When my dad was originally moved from the ICU to his rehabilitation center, my cousin Billy posted a status on my dad's facebook that garnered 200+ reactions and comments, an outpouring of love and support that bought my dad to tears. I know what the power of the internet can do, and I know you all can help us. 

I refuse to send my grandparents into debt while we struggle to pay his medical bills and prepare to have everything my dad is going to need. 

Please. Any little bit that you can contribute will help. He needs the support, prayers, and funds to help him transition from his normal life to this scary, frustrating new world where he won't be able to ask for help himself. Dad needs around the clock supervision and many expensive therapy sessions, so any and all donations will go a long way to help us make sure the rest of his time here is spent as stress-free and comfortable as possible.
