Helping Hands for Bhagya

Donation protected
My name is Gayan Kanchana, and I am a radiographer working at Kettering NHS Trust, UK. Together with my Sri Lankan colleagues working in the NHS-UK, we are rallying to support our fellow NHS coworker, Sampath Wijethunga, during an incredibly challenging time.
Sampath(Lachchuwa ayya), who recently joined the Royal Bath Hospital NHS Trust as a nurse, is facing the unimaginable: his wife, Bhagya Wijethunga, has been diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer. Despite the severity of the diagnosis, Sampath has remained determined to support his wife through this fight.
After a series of discussions with medical professionals in both the UK and Sri Lanka, Bhagya underwent a complex surgical procedure in Sri Lanka to remove several abdominal organs.
As the NHS could only offer palliative care, they travelled back to Sri Lanka for this life-saving surgery.
This operation was a crucial step in preparing her for chemotherapy, which is set to begin in the UK at the Royal Bath Hospital NHS once she has sufficiently recovered.
This journey has taken a tremendous emotional and financial toll on the family. With the rising cost of living in the UK and their ineligibility for government benefits due to visa status, Sampath and his family face significant financial challenges, including medical expenses and daily living costs.
As friends and NHS colleagues, we have come together to initiate this fundraising effort with the hope of providing both immediate and long-term financial relief for Sampath and his family.

Our goal is to help ease their financial burden so that they can focus fully on Bhagya's treatment and recovery.

How You Can Help: We kindly ask for your generosity in contributing to this cause. Every donation, no matter how small, will directly support the family in covering medical bills, living expenses, and providing the much-needed relief they desperately need.

“Difficult roads can lead to beautiful destinations. There is always hope beyond what we see. It’s possible not just to survive but to thrive and live a wonderful life again. Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it.”

Thank you for your compassion and support during this critical time.
